I am not very interested in fashion. Even when I buy clothes, I just pick something from the top rankings on Musinsa, and I always care more about cost-effectiveness than style.

But I enjoyed the first movie so much that when the trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 came out, I pinned it to my calendar and watched the movie the day after it opened.

Naver Movie

“The return of the legendary figures of ‘Runway’ that captivated the world!” The legendary fashion magazine ‘Runway’, which has led global trends, faces an unexpected crisis in the rapidly changing media market. Editor-in-chief ‘Miranda’, who tries to protect ‘Runway’, ‘Andy’, who proudly returns after 20 years as a new planning editor, and ‘Emily’, who reappears as an executive at a luxury brand. Their new story unfolds as they fight for control in the even more glamorous and fierce New York fashion world!

The story begins when ‘Andy’ (Anne Hathaway), who was a nobody in the first movie but is now a veteran journalist, gets fired from her company and joins the struggling Runway magazine. It is a story about protecting Runway, which has lost its former glory, alongside ‘Miranda’ (Meryl Streep), who is still sharp but has become much softer?, ‘Emily’ (Emily Blunt), who appears as the one in power after becoming an executive at Dior, and Nigel (Stanley Tucci), who is still reliably there.

Clearly, the fresh feeling of a “young professional’s growth story” that I could feel in the first movie is nowhere to be found. The story moves so fast that it almost feels lacking in plausibility, and the glamour I felt when watching the previous movie also felt reduced.

But it is definitely not a boring movie. There was still fun in watching the fierce fashion industry and the actors, and I also liked how it captured the changed times and the dilemmas of modern society in an entertaining way.

Most of all, I liked that the identities of the characters from the previous movie were not lost, while still showing how they had changed with the passage of time.

Lastly, Lady Gaga, who appeared like a scene-stealer in the highlight scene, and the OST also fit the mood of the movie really well.

Int Overflow
#

The net worth of all three main actors in the movie exceeds the range of an int.

Racism Controversy?
#

Before the release, there was controversy that the Chinese character appearing as Anne Hathaway’s assistant in the movie contained elements that were derogatory toward Chinese people. The claim was that the name (Chen Zhou) reminded people of the derogatory expression “ching chong,” and that the character was portrayed as an Asian person who was good at studying but lacked social skills (and fashion sense). From the perspective of someone who watched the movie, I did not feel that way at all.

Personally, I enjoyed the first movie more, but separately from that, I do not feel that this movie was a waste of my time at all. If you watched the first movie, you should definitely watch this one.
