Intro

On August 8, 2025, I watched Ballerina at a CGV theater on my day off.

Ballerina is the first spin-off movie from the John Wick universe. While it opened in most countries in June, it was released a bit later in Korea.

This movie had a relatively small audience in Korea.

But as a huge fan of the John Wick universe, I had to watch it — and it was actually quite good.

Plot
#

This movie takes place after John Wick’s excommunication in John Wick: Chapter 3

The basic plot is as follows:

Eve, the main character, lost her father to a mysterious cult group and was entrusted to the Ruska Roma by Winston. Now, she seeks revenge — despite the overwhelming power of the organization behind her enemies.

In the manner of the John Wick series, the plot is quite thin — even predictable…

Review

Even though the plot is quite thin, the visuals more than make up for it.

I was so fascinated by the visuals that I didn’t even notice the time passing during the movie.

True to its R-rating, every place the main character goes is filled with blood and relentless action.

Even though John Wick’s screen time is quite short, it’s enough to leave an impact.

There’s no post-credit scene.

Korean actors Jung Doo-hong and Choi Sooyoung (Girls’ Generation) appear in the movie, but their roles are minor.

Some familiar faces from the John Wick movies — like Winston, Charon, and others — make an appearance again. It was nice to see them, even in small roles.

This is my first post in English

Final
#

Maybe I’m a little biased — I watched it on my day off and I’ve always been a huge fan of the John Wick universe — but still, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also, this movie had all the conditions to be swallowed by PC-ism, but unlike many recent Hollywood films, it wasn’t — and I liked it even more because of that.

3-Point
#

  1. A thin plot, but overwhelming visuals.
  2. Enjoyable even if you’re not familiar with John Wick — and a must-watch if you are.
  3. English is too hard for me😭 😭. But hey, I’m working on it.
